Actually, you can have free gold. If you go to the "Add Funds" section, there is a button at the bottom that says "Tap to Earn Free Gold". If you go in there, you can download other apps that give you 4 gold each. Some of them don't work and most of them do. I have used them and then uninstalled the app I don't have any problems. They update the apps every once in a while so you will always have new opportunities.
Amazing Alex & Flavor Monsters have never given me the 4 gold for downloading them so I would avoid those. Other than that, have at it!
Don't believe all those 'cheat' codes, it's just people wanting you to add them.
Like me...only I don't call it a cheat code, it's just MY code and I accept anyone, this game is fun even without spending real dollars, euros or yen.

Check the special offers to get free gold (usually 1-4 gold bars per app), I check it almost daily, sometimes they work!
Go to your ADD MAFIA. Type Code: 898 816 350 . Hit ADD FRIEND. Once you've done that you get more Total Mafia Attack and more Total Mafia Defense, that's all! There is no way to get free gold other than add on's or watching a video. Selling their gold is what pays for them to maintain this game! Game On!
