I don't know of any spiny things in Hyrule Field.

If you mean the Stalchildren (only attack at night as a child), simply attack them with any weapon. Wearing the Bunnyhood prevents them from appearing.

If you mean the Poes and Big Poes (only as an adult), it is best to attack with your bow. The Big Poes will stay too far away to attack with anything else, but the normal Poes can be beaten with a sword.

If you mean the Peahats (only ative during the day and present at night; only as a child), you must attack the thing on their underside (maybe a taproot?). It is what you target. You can beat it with nothing but your sword, but the Slingshot makes it easier. Simply block the mini Peahats with your shield.

I think it was a Taproot, they look like carrots...right?

What I called a "taproot" was the kind of pointy nub thing on the underside of the Peahat, which itself looks like a giant pineapple. A taproot is the main verticle root of a plant, it is not an enemy or item.
