I'm in the begining and all it says is walking, and I only see faded colors of lights but it wont let me suck it up, what do I do?

You must have your wifi set to on and be within range of a wireless router for it to work, but don't need internet access. I had the same problem and read the game box again, flipped the wifi switch on my 3ds and someone almost instantly started speaking to me starting up the mission. Hope this helps.
