With practise. Try to keep your ring count to 75 or over, especially after you hit him the fourth time. After this it is extremely hard to collect rings, as they don't come around until near the time he opens himself to attack. For Modern's part, go through as many ring bunches as possible, and avoid nearly all of his attacks. His clock attack is hard to dodge, but possible.
Recap: Keep ring count higher than 75,and avoid as many attacks as possible.
This should take several trys.
The best time to do this is when you are not stressed, and your hands are dry.
This is coming from a 12 year old who got the game on Christmas Day 2011, and beat it the same day.
Well, it took me awhile to beat him, but this is what you have to do. For classic if you want to save time you have dodge every move the Time Eater makes or else he'll do it again. As for modern just fly through packs of rings so you will have more time to fight the Time Eater.
I can't beat it! I can hit it four times. I can't avoid the stupid hands either, they won't get out of my way. Is there a way you can skip the part with the hands? :/
It's simple, actually. You start off with Classic, obviously. Since it's the beginning of the fight, Robotnik doesn't do anything challenging. Just avoid the Homing Shots. After that, he'll do a taunting motion, and a red circle will appear within the purple core. Until it stops, repeatedly press the B button. You'll know when it's over when it switches to Modern Sonic. In this part, Eggman with put out purple voids that you have to look out for. Hold Y button to boost through all of it. Then get ready to push the B button when Eggman taunts and makes a metal type noise. After that, it'll switch to 2D again. Robotnik adds on a new attack similar to the warping arm attack in the console. There will be 4 homing shot signals, but they will be purple. Get as far away as possible from those so you won't get grabbed. Then Robotnik will do the Homing Shot attack. Usually to avoid those I go all the way to the bottom of the screen so they'll come after me down there, but then I'll move up in the corner close to Time Eater, so they'll miss me. Then press the B button after the taunting noise. It switches back to 3D. Eggman has also added a new attack, which this time is a warping arm attack. The 2 arms following him will come towards you, and you have to avoid them. The trick to get past these is easy. When the 2 hands go one way, go the other. Meaning if they are on the left and right side of you, move the circle pad down and push B so you'll dodge it. Eggman does this 2 times so try to boost in between those times. Then you go through the purple voids again. It switches back. Now Robotnik added on a Green Laser attack. Just avoid where the light is. Then you'll go through all the other recent attacks. Then it switches back to 3D. Eggman added another new attack. His arms spin clockwise, creating a clock. Don't push B to dodge it. Hold Y and go through where the clock's arms are not. This is difficult, but don't give up because your ring count will decrease fast. After this they'll go through the other recent attacks, and switch back. This should be your last time until the final collision with Modern and Classic. Robotnik added another attack, a purple void. This is easy to avoid. Then he adds about 2 or 3 more lasers, which can get difficult. Then you go through all the attacks again. Then Modern and Classic collide and you defeat the Time Eater.
When he starts attacking with his hands in modern ver. As soon as you see it come up with the B button and D-pad press B don't press B until it says to or it will attack and to dodge the clock attack boost to the left of right up and down I think will work to but left and right work for sure

Just smash a and x until you get to him then crash into the purple 3 times while avoiding the stuff from the past. Then they'll make a heat sheild to block you so when the time comes press y or stay modern sonic and press right trigger and left trigger to combine your powers then you turn into a drill and go right through the heat sheild to the core. Then you're done . A cutscene is put to show what you did and that's it.
I played as just Modern and beat him with S first time. Stay in one corner 'til the arrows shoot THEN dodge, same with the punches, the green lasers... Just dodge, the smashing hands depending on the position dodge up-down or left-right with B+D-pad, now the hard part... THE ANNOYING CLOCKS... The first one you have to aim at the minute hand -second hour hand - third minute hand.
On the way there get coins to last longer, and if you need switch to classic.
At the part with the hands just keep pressing Y and go through the ring circles and you'll get there easilly... Or at least that was easy for me...
You don't, the third modern Sonic hit is impossible to get because it's IMPOSSIBLE TO DODGE THE HANDS.
