How the heck do you get the Treasure Item in the Sickness of Thror?

Every time I try and get close, the darn avalanche of gold comes and kills me. Is there an easy way of getting it, a character that breaks things faster than the other ones? I've tried Legolas and Azog, and it takes them a while to get it open!
