If there are barriers, then they aren't really shortcuts. They are just effects to make everything look real. Shortcuts are usually hidden pretty well, but when you see dollars signs off to the side during a race, that's a shortcut. Also, look for cars ahead of you to take shortcuts and follow them or find the shortcut in the next lap. Hope I helped!
