Are palm trees counted into town total?

I have 189 trees not counting palm trees, I cut some to get under 200 - for perfect town - always underdeveloped. However, I also have 44 palm trees on the beach whic would put me well over 200. I want to cull no more than necessary. Please help, everyone in my group has perfect town but me, until reading here more than 200 trees causes town to be considedred underdeveloped.

Comment:(Nov 15 2013) Apparently so. After I cut down some 40 trees isabelle was more positive, but town still underdeveloped, so I kept cutting. Now I have 180 trees incl. palms and bamboo. I now have a perfect town - that was the key. Thanks I found the tip here.

I was going to say that I didn't think palm trees were in the total. Oh well, I guess I was wrong. I'm glad you found the answer to your question.
