Question for Animal Crossing: New Leaf

I'm wondering... I want to make my house a food themed house (although there's no real food theme, including the sweets theme) but some of the DLC is only Japan? Since the US doesn't have some of the festivals would I just go on the same day that it would be ? Or do I need to buy an import... Please help?

To get the Japan DLC or items from festivals, either buy the Japanese version and a Japanese 3DS, go to the dates of the Japanese festivals, get the items and have both your 3DS's connect to trade the items over or go onto the international island and ask an English speaking Japanese person is you could exchange friend codes and let you clone the Japanese items.

They are both difficult ways so I would just stick with the sweets furniture.
