From you 3DS's home screen, touch the icon on the top that looks like a square smiley face. That brings you to your friends list. Scroll you yourself and your friend code will be under your name on the top screen.

Your 3DS friend code IS your ACNL friend code. Your freinds just need to add your 3DS friend code.
