I think you'll find it's bad luck it happens to me once it might be some thing to do with that Fortune Teller katrina

It is bad luck. Katrina will tell you how to fix your misfortune (it's usually a specific article of clothing). If you haven't unlocked her at the shops yet, you're kinda out of luck for the day.

If you are tripping and you aren't wearing a king tut mask, you have bad luck for health. If you go to Katrina in the tent or next to the Dream Suite in Main Street, for 500 bells, she will tell you what your lucky item is. If you wear it, you will stop tripping.
If you have Katrina in Main Street and you have bad luck, you can buy a special hat for 10,000 bells. It is randomly chosen but the 2 lucky hats are the tingle hat and the celebration hat. These special hats act as a permanent bad luck preventer while you're wearing 1.
