If you encounter someone using Streetpass who is sharing Mario Kart 7 data, use the Mario Kart Channel to view the data - you will see the kart customization that person has. If you choose to race the Grand Prix the person has set up on their profile, and then finish above them, you will receive any kart customization parts they were using that you didn't already have
