If you collect all of the chaos emralds go to any zone of your choice.collect 50 rings and then double jump.
After the Sega logo fades and Sonic begins to appear but before the screen flashes white quickly press Up(2), Down(2), Up(4). If you have entered the code correctly you will hear a Confirmation chime. Then at the 'Title' screen press Up to access 'Level Select' and 'Sound Test' options.
