On the mission were you have to defeat Puma you can only hit him when he jumps.
Once you have completed the game you will have unlocked the level select option which is available at the main menu.
You can now press Start during gameplay to select the level you want to play.
Once you complete the game you get a choice of level select and strength enhancement which gives you a new costume....
